Q-002
Question:
If someone recites Durood Shareef after At-Tahiyyat in the first sitting (Qa’dah-e-Ula) of a four Rak’ah Sunnah or Nafl prayer, is Sajda-e-Sahw (prostration of forgetfulness) necessary?
A-002
Answer:
If one is praying a four Rak’ah Farz (obligatory), Wajib, or Sunnah Mu’akkadah prayer, and in the first sitting (Qa’dah-e-Ula) after reciting At-Tahiyyat, also recites Durood Shareef — even just “Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad” or more — then Sajda-e-Sahw becomes necessary.
However, in the case of four Rak’ah Sunnah Ghair Mu’akkadah or Nafl prayers, if Durood Shareef is recited after At-Tahiyyat in the first sitting — even the entire Durood — Sajda-e-Sahw is not necessary.
In fact, reciting Durood in the first sitting of these (Sunnah Ghair Mu’akkadah and Nafl) prayers is considered Mustahab (recommended).
